Mission

Heaven Gallery is a non-profit gallery and multi-disciplinary arts space in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood that encourages, mentors, and presents new and emerging artists and musicians to audiences throughout Chicagoland and beyond. In order to encourage submissions from the widest diversity of artists, regardless of their financial situation, Heaven Gallery widely promotes our open proposal process, and does not charge submission or exhibition fees. All of our programs are open to the public. Heaven strives to make artwork accessible to all community members: our visual art exhibitions are free of charge, and all events are open to audiences on a pay-what-you-can basis. Heaven also hosts regular community events to help the public deal with these stressful times through discussion, meditation, and education.

History

Heaven Gallery is devoted to exhibiting the work of new and emerging artists. In 1997 David Dobie established Heaven in the Flat Iron Building in Wicker Park, Chicago. In July 2000, the gallery moved across the street to its current location, 1550 north Milwaukee. Clara Alcott joined the Heaven Gallery staff in 2004 as the Video/Film Coordinator. In early 2007 Elisa Harkins joined the heaven team as the Chief Curator and Web Master.

Heaven Gallery showcases new artists, as well as new forms of art including painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, digital art, sound, and more. Heaven has monthly exhibitions as well as various video and film programs on a regular basis. Some of the featured artists include Maire Kennedy, Jeanne Medina, Rob Lomblad, Tom Palazzolo, TV Pow, Perspects, Calvin Johnson, Eric Fensler, Cat Chow, Heidi Van Wieren, Jon Leone, Patrick Welch and many others.
